Genetic Counselling is for anyone who has questions or concerns about the risk of inheriting, developing, or passing on a genetic disease.

Gene Counsel Caribbean provides genetic counselling for a wide range of

genetic conditions. This involves assessing the family history, discussing test options (or the results of testing already done), and supporting your understanding of what the results may mean for your health and your family.

My goal is to empower you with clear information to help you make informed decisions that allow you and your family to manage your current and future health.

See below for examples of who may benefit from genetic counselling.

Hereditary Cancer Counselling

Hereditary

You may benefit from genetic counselling if:

  • You have been diagnosed with cancer or have family members with cancer. Specific risk factors include:

    • Young age at diagnosis (<50y for many cancers)

    • Many relatives with the same cancer or related cancers (e.g. mother and sister with breast cancer)

    • Individuals with more than one primary cancer (e.g. a woman with breast and ovarian cancer)

    • Rare cancer types (e.g. medullary thyroid cancer)

  • Your relative has been found to have a hereditary cancer predisposition (e.g. BRCA1 mutation, Lynch syndrome).

  • You have been found to have a gene mutation associated with hereditary cancer and want to discuss screening recommendations and options for managing your health.
